During the 2026 AFL Trade Period, significant player movements have centered on the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide.

Initially, Adelaide Crows forward and midfielder Luke Pedlar requested a trade to Port Adelaide. Because Pedlar has not met the seven-year requirement for free agency, Adelaide retains control over the negotiation process. Concurrently, Port Adelaide midfielder Zak Butters nominated the Western Bulldogs as his preferred destination for 2027, a move experts suggested might require a ‘mega deal’ involving multiple players and draft picks.

As the trade period progressed, Port Adelaide began evaluating its options regarding Butters. The club is weighing whether to match a free agency offer from the Western Bulldogs or accept a compensation pick, estimated to be No. 5 in the upcoming draft. Port Adelaide officials stated they are testing the market to determine fair value, while also considering Richmond as a potential fallback option during negotiations.
