Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah was excluded from the shortlist for the Men’s Player of the Year award, despite recording 12 goals and 10 assists at the club level and contributing significantly to Egypt’s historic progression to the Round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup. Nigerian men’s football players also received no nominations across the seven men’s categories. Specifically, former winners Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman were omitted from the 10-man shortlist for the Men’s Player of the Year. In contrast, Morocco and Senegal lead the nominations with three players each. While Nigerian men were absent, the Super Falcons have been nominated for Women’s National Team of the Year, and Christiana Uzoma is a contender for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. The awards ceremony is set to be held in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 7, 2026. ## Timeline ### 2026-11-05: CAF Men's Player of the Year nominees exclude Nigerian stars Nigeria's men's football stars, including former winners Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, were omitted from the 2026 CAF Men's Player of the Year shortlist, while the Super Falcons earned nominations. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/caf-mens-player-of-the-year-nominees-exclude-nigerian-stars ### 2026-11-04: Mohamed Salah excluded from CAF African Player of the Year nominations Mohamed Salah has been left off the CAF shortlist for the 2026 African Player of the Year award despite strong individual statistics for both club and the Egyptian national team. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/mohamed-salah-excluded-from-caf-african-player-of-the-year-nominations --- Cite as: 2026 CAF African Player of the Year nominations.
