Preparations are underway for the 2026 Gamou celebrations in Senegal, a major religious event commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. 

In early August, religious authorities in Tivaouane issued warnings to social media influencers, with Habib Sy Mansour stating that the event should remain a period of “faith, prayer, and devotion.”

The National Commission for Consultation on the Lunar Crescent (CONACOC) has officially set the celebration for Tuesday, August 25, 2026. In Tivaouane, the Cellule Zawiyah Tidiane reported that Burda recitation sessions are scheduled to begin ahead of the event. This year’s theme is ‘Together, think and act through the word of Unicity (Tawhid),’ which focuses on the oneness of God alongside social responsibility, ethical behavior, and the pursuit of peace and justice.
