During the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, British singer Raye made her ceremony performance debut. Wearing red to match her music video, she performed her nominated hit ‘Where Is My Husband!’. Earlier, she appeared on the red carpet in a silver Georges Hobeika couture gown. Her nominations include Song of the Year and Best Visual Effects for ‘Click Clack Symphony’, a collaboration with Hans Zimmer. Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the event featured a performance by Madonna and the presentation of the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors to Taylor Swift. A major tribute was held to honor the late pop icon George Michael, marking 40 years since the release of his album ‘Faith’. Introduced by Orville Peck and featuring musical direction by Adam Blackstone, the star-studded medley included performances by Sombr (‘Faith’ and ‘Father Figure’), Raye (‘I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)’), and Teddy Swims (‘Careless Whisper’). During the tribute, Sombr notably wore a black Harley-Davidson leather jacket originally worn by Michael during his 1988 ‘Faith Tour’. The segment concluded with a cover of ‘Freedom! (’90)’ led by Adam Lambert alongside Sombr, Raye, Swims, and UK singers MNEK and Saint Harison. This tribute aligns with upcoming releases celebrating Michael’s legacy: the live album ‘George Michael: The Faith Tour’ on November 6 and a concert film scheduled for US theatrical release on December 11. ## Claims - Sombr performed 'Faith' and 'Father Figure' while wearing George Michael's original leather jacket from the 'Faith' era (corroborated by 3 sources) - Raye performed 'I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)' (corroborated by 3 sources) - Adam Lambert performed 'Freedom 90' as a surprise finale to the tribute (corroborated by 3 sources) - George Michael won four VMA awards during his career (corroborated by 3 sources) - George Michael was a pop god (corroborated by 2 sources) - Teddy Swims performed 'Careless Whisper' (single source) - A live album titled 'The Faith Tour' is scheduled for release on November 6 (single source) - A film titled 'George Michael: The Faith Tour' will be released in cinemas worldwide on December 11 (single source) ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: George Michael honored with musical tribute at MTV VMAs Artists including Adam Lambert, Teddy Swims, and Raye performed a musical tribute to George Michael at the 2026 MTV VMAs, celebrating his musical legacy and upcoming film and album releases. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/george-michael-honored-with-musical-tribute-at-mtv-vmas ### 2026-09-27: Raye performs at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards Singer Raye made her MTV VMA performance debut in Los Angeles, performing her hit ‘Where Is My Husband!’ following a red carpet appearance in Georges Hobeika couture. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/raye-performs-at-the-2026-mtv-video-music-awards ### 2026-09-26: George Michael honored with star-studded tribute at 2026 MTV VMAs Artists RAYE, Sombr, Teddy Swims, and Adam Lambert performed a star-studded tribute to George Michael at the 2026 MTV VMAs, celebrating the 40th anniversary of his iconic ‘Faith’ era. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/george-michael-honored-with-tribute-at-2026-mtv-vmas ### 2026-09-24: George Michael tribute announced for 2026 MTV VMAs Raye, Sombr, and Teddy Swims will lead a George Michael tribute at the 2026 MTV VMAs, sparking online debate regarding the selection of performers for the late icon's memorial. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/george-michael-tribute-announced-for-2026-mtv-vmas --- Cite as: 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
