Abia State and the socio-cultural organization Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide have announced that Umuahia will host the 2026 World Igbo Day on September 28 and 29. The event, themed ‘Njikọ Aka’ or ‘togetherness is best’, marks a return for the annual celebration to be held within Nigeria.

The program is designed to promote unity and strategic engagement among the Igbo people both domestically and in the diaspora. Scheduled activities include an interdenominational church service, traditional dances, and a march-past by state delegations.

A central component of the celebration is a public lecture titled ‘The Igbo Charter and the Development of Ala Igbo’ (also referred to as the ‘Igbo Charter of Strategic Engagement for National Development’). To be delivered by Professor Kingsley Moghalu, the lecture will focus on a strategic document created by a committee of professionals to outline the development priorities and worldview of the Igbo people as a framework for engaging with the global community and wider Nigerian society.
