Preparations are underway for the Wrestling World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, scheduled to run from late October through November 1, 2026.

Cuba has confirmed a nine-member delegation comprising four Greco-Roman and five freestyle wrestlers, including Olympic and world champions. However, technical chief José Mario Olivera noted concerns regarding the “quality of the preparation” for the team.

In contrast, the Hungarian program enters the tournament with significant momentum. Ten of their thirteen participating wrestlers have secured top-eight seeds in their respective weight classes, a ranking density surpassed only by Russia and Azerbaijan. Among the Hungarian top seeds are Greco-Roman wrestlers István Váncza (72 kg), Róbert Fritsch (77 kg), Alex Szőke (97 kg), and Dárius Vitek (130 kg).

Turkey has also finalized its roster, submitting thirty athletes to United World Wrestling across the Greco-Roman, Women's Freestyle, and Men's Freestyle categories. As the championships approach, the Turkish National Greco-Roman Wrestling Team is conducting a final high-altitude training camp in the Palandöken Mountains of Erzurum. Coach Şaban Donat reported that the team is in good condition with no injuries. Among the participants is former world champion Ali Cengiz, who is returning to competition following a two-year recovery from torn cruciate ligaments. The Turkish team is expected to depart Erzurum on October 18, arriving in Kazakhstan by October 21.
