Finnish forward Patrik Laine remains an unrestricted free agent as the 2026-27 NHL season progresses. While interest has been linked to the Los Angeles Kings and the Detroit Red Wings—the latter of whom must first resolve contract situations involving Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson—no deal has been reached.

The Calgary Flames have held internal discussions regarding Laine, though the organization continues to prioritize the development of its younger players.

Laine’s status remains complicated by his history with the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and a season limited by core muscle surgery. However, his agent, Andy Scott, reports that Laine is feeling healthy and ready to play. Analysts continue to monitor his health and motivation, noting that if an NHL agreement is not reached, Laine may pursue opportunities in Europe, specifically in Finland or Switzerland.
