The psychological horror film ‘Other Mommy’ (also referred to as ‘Mammina’), directed by Rob Savage and based on Josh Malerman’s novel ‘Incidents Around the House’, has been released by Universal Pictures, Blumhouse, and Atomic Monster. The story follows a young girl named Bela who is tormented by a supernatural entity that takes the form of a doppelgänger. Jessica Chastain stars in dual roles, portraying both a mother named Ursula and the shape-shifting entity. Following its release, critical reception has been mixed to negative. While Chastain’s technical ability has been noted, reviewers have criticized the film for its reliance on jump scares and “disjointed editing,” with some labeling it a ‘two-star mess’ due to a lack of narrative depth. As of October 9, 2026, the film holds an 18% to 19% score on Rotten Tomatoes and received a rare D+ CinemaScore from audiences. Despite the critical backlash, the film has maintained strong commercial momentum. It topped the North American box office for the weekend of October 9–11, 2026, earning approximately $27.5 million from a debut in 3,365 cinemas. This brought its global debut to approximately $45.2 million, effectively doubling its $18 million to $19 million production budget. The film has also seen significant international success; in Italy, ‘Mammina’ reached the top of the box office, earning €1,982,148 and marking the best debut for a horror film in the Italian market in 2026. Universal and Blumhouse noted that the film has attracted a broad demographic, with roughly two-thirds of the audience aged between 18 and 34. ## Claims - Jessica Chastain performs a dual role as both the mother and a supernatural entity.
