Rangers FC entered a period of improved form in the Scottish Premiership, sitting in second place with 16 points and trailing leaders Celtic by two points. During this time, supporters expressed significant interest in the potential return of midfielder Billy Gilmour, with a poll showing 65% of respondents favored the Napoli player over other targets.

Following a run of five consecutive wins and five clean sheets, Rangers prepared to host Kilmarnock at Ibrox. While Rangers sought to move to the top of the table, Kilmarnock entered the fixture at the bottom of the Premiership, attempting to distance themselves from the relegation zone following recent improvements under manager Neil McCann.
