Brazilian legend Romário has voiced support for Ronaldo, suggesting the striker may have felt humiliated by the coach. Romário criticized Jesus’s professional conduct regarding broken agreements, stating, “If someone does not keep their word, it testifies to a bad character.” The tension reportedly involves specific claims that Jesus failed to honor a promise of 30 minutes of playing time during the Norway match and failed to provide a joint explanation during a press conference as previously agreed. Media reactions remain deeply divided. While Rio Ferdinand described the treatment of Ronaldo as “inappropriate” and Piers Morgan compared Jesus to Erik ten Hag, pundit Jamie Carragher has criticized these defenses. Speaking on ‘The Overlap Daily’, Carragher suggested that Morgan and Ferdinand were “embarrassing themselves” by prioritizing personal friendships over objective analysis. Carragher maintained his previous stance that the walk-out in Copenhagen may have been a tactical move to force the manager out of his position. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-10: Jamie Carragher criticizes Piers Morgan and Rio Ferdinand over Ronaldo defense Jamie Carragher has slammed Piers Morgan and Rio Ferdinand for defending Cristiano Ronaldo after the striker's controversial walk-out from the Portugal national team following a rift with manager Jorge Jesus. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jamie-carragher-criticizes-piers-morgan-and-rio-ferdinand-over-ronaldo-defense ### 2026-10-09: Romário defends Cristiano Ronaldo in dispute with Jorge Jesus Brazilian legend Romário defends Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to leave the Portugal national team, citing coach Jorge Jesus's alleged failure to honor agreements regarding playing time and public explanations. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/romrio-defends-cristiano-ronaldo-in-dispute-with-jorge-jesus ### 2026-10-06: Christophe Dugarry criticizes Cristiano Ronaldo's conduct Former French footballer Christophe Dugarry criticized Cristiano Ronaldo for letting his ego affect his career following his departure from the Portugal national team after disputes with coach Jorge Jesus. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/christophe-dugarry-criticizes-cristiano-ronaldos-conduct --- Cite as: Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal national team dispute.
