During qualifying, Max Verstappen secured pole position by a margin of 0.054 seconds over Charles Leclerc, following a mistake by Leclerc in the final chicane. Other notable incidents included a crash by George Russell from the lead position during the opening lap.

Technical adjustments were also reported, such as Mercedes utilizing older components for Russell and Red Bull Racing implementing a power unit change for Isack Hadjar to avoid a grid penalty.
