Following municipal elections in the Czech Republic, political parties in Prague and Brno have entered negotiations to form new governing coalitions.

In Prague, the STAN movement remains the central actor after winning 17 seats. Negotiations are navigating two primary models. One is a narrow two-party coalition with the SPOLU alliance (comprising ODS and TOP 09), which would hold 34 seats. SPOLU leader Tomáš Portlík has suggested STAN hold the mayoralty while SPOLU manages finances, though disagreements persist regarding housing, transport, and urban development. A second possibility is a broader three-party coalition involving STAN, Praha sobě, and the Pirates, which would hold 37 seats and share more compatible views on climate policy. Supporters of this model have launched a petition to urge STAN to avoid partnering with ODS.

Representatives from STAN, SPOLU, and Praha sobě have met to discuss a preliminary division of council responsibilities. Under this proposal, STAN would hold five positions (development, education, security, environment, and IT), SPOLU would manage four (finance, social and health affairs, infrastructure, and culture), and Praha sobě would receive two (transport and property management). STAN leader Petr Hlaváček aims to finalize an agreement before the November 19 inaugural assembly.

In Brno, Jakub Hruška of the KDU-ČSL and STAN coalition is set to become the first mayor representing the KDU-ČSL since 1990. The coalition has reached a thematic agreement on its governing program, achieving consensus on all major policy areas. While the distribution of mayoral portfolios remains under negotiation, the coalition plans to establish the administration by the end of next week. The eleven-member City Council is expected to be distributed mathematically, with the KDU-ČSL and STAN alliance holding five seats.
