Manchester City’s perfect start to the 2026/27 Premier League season has come to an end. Following an initial record of seven wins from seven matches, the club suffered its first defeat of the campaign, losing 2-1 to Aston Villa. Nicolas Jackson scored both goals for Villa, while Erling Haaland provided the lone equaliser for City.

With this loss, Manchester City is no longer the only club in Europe’s top five domestic leagues to maintain a 100 per cent winning record. Barcelona, under head coach Hansi Flick, remains the sole team across England, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France to have won all of its league matches, having secured nine victories from nine La Liga fixtures.

Prior to this setback, Manchester City held first place in the Premier League with 21 points, ahead of Arsenal and Brighton. The club also continues to face reports regarding potential disciplinary actions concerning financial matters.
