# Climate change impacts on global education > Live situation record from CLSTR: https://clstr.news/situations/20261022-climate-change-impacts-on-global-education > Updated: 2026-10-22T02:23:00.000Z. Sources: 3. Developments: 2. Climate change is increasingly disrupting educational systems through both digital initiatives and physical infrastructure challenges. In Ghana, the launch of the Ghana Climate Literacy Portal (GCLP) represents an effort to provide open-access digital learning to address climate science and resilience. However, extreme weather continues to pose direct threats to academic progress. Rising temperatures have been linked to negative impacts on student cognition, mental health, and physical safety, with research suggesting that indoor temperatures exceeding 73.4 degrees Fahrenheit can hinder learning. Beyond heat, shifting climate patterns such as heavy rainfall and severe flooding in Southeast Asia and South America cause physical destruction to classrooms and erode essential infrastructure. Even when buildings remain intact, schools are frequently repurposed as disaster relief centers, leading to further interruptions in learning. Vulnerabilities such as aging HVAC systems, wildfires, and power outages contribute to an increasing frequency of school closures worldwide. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-22: Climate change impacts global school infrastructure and operations Climate change is disrupting global education through extreme heat, flooding, and infrastructure damage, leading to frequent school closures and the repurposing of buildings for disaster relief. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/climate-change-impacts-global-school-infrastructure-and-operations ### 2026-09-28: Climate change impacts education through literacy tools and weather disruptions Climate change affects education through new digital literacy tools like Ghana’s GCLP and physical disruptions caused by extreme heat, which experts say impairs student cognition and academic progress. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/climate-change-impacts-education-through-literacy-tools-and-weather-disruptions --- Cite as: Climate change impacts on global education.
