The romantic fantasy comedy ‘Wicker’, based on Ursula Wills-Jones’ short story ‘The Wicker Husband’, premiered at the BFI London Film Festival. The film follows a fisherwoman, played by Olivia Colman, who commissions a basket weaver, played by Peter Dinklage, to craft her a husband, portrayed by Alexander Skarsgård.

Following the premiere, production details emerged regarding the film’s practical effects. Wētā Workshop utilized 50 people over one year to design the wicker costume, which included a prosthetic face and upper body. Actors Alexander Skarsgård and Olivia Colman have discussed the physical challenges and limitations of filming while wearing the practical wicker suit.

Recent reports highlight that the production employed an intimacy coordinator to manage the film’s romantic and comedic elements. Skarsgård noted that the physical costume required “exaggerated facial movements” to ensure expressions could be registered through the mask. The film has drawn attention for its blend of satire, social commentary, and its depiction of an unconventional relationship set within a medieval village.
