The 55th edition of Montreal’s Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) launched with nearly 200 works from over 30 countries. The event began during a period of administrative and financial restructuring, following the departure of co-general director Ariane Bélanger and the loss of approximately $250,000 in sponsorships from major backers. To address budget constraints, the organization moved away from a dual-director model, with Michel Pradier returning to lead the festival alongside a renewed board of directors.

In Montpellier, France, the 48th Cinemed International Mediterranean Film Festival concluded despite significant logistical disruptions. Severe flooding forced the relocation of screenings from the Corum venue to other centers, and social unrest on October 17 necessitated shortening the final day for safety. The festival concluded by presenting awards, including the Antigone d’Or to ‘Dua’ directed by Blerta Basholli.
