Sources: 2. Developments: 2. The development of Project Jupiter, a massive artificial intelligence infrastructure project in New Mexico, has encountered both operational and social challenges. Oracle, a core tenant for the Stargate initiative, issued a “force majeure” notice due to significant delays caused by electricity supply shortages and administrative hurdles. The company indicated it might suspend payments if the project fails to meet deadlines resulting from these energy and regulatory issues. Simultaneously, the project has faced public opposition. Activists and students, organized under groups such as Youth United for Climate Crisis Action and the “Stop Project Jupiter” coalition, have held protests at various universities. Demonstrators cited concerns regarding the environmental impact on air quality and water security in the Chihuahuan Desert, as well as the potential for legislative efforts to fast-track data centers at the expense of environmental policies and tribal sovereignty. In response to these concerns, Oracle stated it is working to develop the project responsibly, noting the replacement of gas turbine designs with Bloom Energy fuel cells to reduce pollutants and minimize water usage. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-26: New Mexico activists protest Oracle's Project Jupiter data center New Mexico activists and students are protesting Oracle’s Project Jupiter data center, citing concerns over water security, environmental impacts, and the expansion of AI infrastructure. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/new-mexico-activists-protest-oracles-project-jupiter-data-center ### 2026-10-02: Oracle declares force majeure for Project Jupiter AI infrastructure Oracle has declared “force majeure” for Project Jupiter in New Mexico, citing energy supply delays that threaten the $500 billion Stargate AI infrastructure project. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/oracle-and-realty-income-see-market-movement-amid-infrastructure-and-earnings-news --- Cite as: Oracle Project Jupiter development in New Mexico.
