During the T20I series in New Zealand, Indian cricketer Tilak Varma played a pivotal role in securing a 2-0 series lead. In the second T20I at Christchurch, Varma scored an unbeaten 51 off 26 balls, forming a 69-run partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy to overcome a batting collapse and secure a four-wicket victory. During this match, Varma also set a world record for the most catches taken by a fielder in a single calendar year in international T20 cricket, reaching 26 catches.

In the third T20I, Varma’s participation was complicated by a knee injury sustained while fielding, which required attention from the team physio. Despite the injury, Varma has continued to discuss his middle-order batting strategy and leadership role alongside captain Shreyas Iyer, focusing on a calculated approach to managing chases.
