Reports indicate that the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the video game ‘Elden Ring’ is expected to have a production budget approaching $200 million. If confirmed, this would be the most expensive production in the history of studio A24.

Written and directed by Alex Garland, the film features a script of at least 180 pages, suggesting a runtime of nearly three hours. The production, which was shot in IMAX format, completed filming in July and is currently in post-production. The cast includes Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, and Nick Offerman. Recent reports specify that Kit Connor is set to star in the lead role, joined by an ensemble cast that includes Maisie Williams.

To manage the high-budget project, A24 is reportedly seeking partners to share financial risks. Amazon MGM Studios has reportedly acquired international pay-1 streaming rights for several markets in a deal potentially worth tens of millions of dollars. This agreement, finalized ahead of the American Film Market, ensures the film will be available on Prime Video following its cinema run.

The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 3, 2028. Recent updates confirm the production involves collaboration with FromSoftware and describe a narrative involving battles against dragons and monsters. The deal with Amazon MGM Studios may also encompass promotional activities on the Twitch platform. To prevent spoilers, A24 staff have reportedly accompanied potential buyers while they read the script, with certain portions being withheld from view. The project aims for a faithful adaptation of the dark fantasy universe created by Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin.
