The event has expanded its scope to include representatives from engineering orders in Slovenia, Croatia, and Portugal, fostering international dialogue on the evolving profession. Discussions have centered on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its implications for professional responsibility, alongside the transition toward ‘Society 5.0’. Participants are also addressing the necessity for increased specialization in emerging fields, such as biometric and safety engineering. Vice Minister of Justice Francesco Paolo Sisto has reiterated that growing complexity requires both specialized expertise and legislative reform to modernize professional regulations. International delegates have raised shared concerns regarding the industry, specifically the need for digital documentation in construction and the issue of low compensation for young engineers. This latter point was highlighted as a factor contributing to ‘brain drain’ in countries such as Portugal. The congress maintains a strong focus on generational renewal, aiming to involve professionals under the age of 35 in shaping the industry’s future. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-22: Engineers hold 70th National Congress in Trieste to discuss AI and reform The 70th National Congress of Engineers in Trieste addresses AI, professional reform, and Society 5.0, alongside international discussions on engineering challenges and compensation. 26 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/engineers-hold-70th-national-congress-in-trieste ### 2026-09-17: Trieste to host 70th National Congress of Engineers The 70th National Congress of Engineers will be held in Trieste from September 23-25, focusing on the role of technology in Society 5.0 and navigating new professional responsibilities. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/trieste-to-host-70th-national-congress-of-engineers ### 2026-09-11: National Congress of Engineers to focus on AI and reform The 70th National Congress of Engineers in Trieste will focus on professional reform, AI, and energy transition, with the CNI calling for a greater role in public policy. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/national-congress-of-engineers-to-focus-on-ai-and-reform --- Cite as: 70th National Congress of Engineers in Italy.
