The A14 Bologna-Taranto motorway continues to face disruptions due to ongoing maintenance, infrastructure projects, and labor disputes.

In mid-September, scheduled nightly closures were announced between the Val di Sangro and Vasto Nord sections for safety barrier upgrades, affecting the Sangro Ovest and Sangro Est service areas. Concurrently, the CGIL Marche trade union renewed protests regarding construction sites in the Porto San Giorgio and San Benedetto del Tronto stretches, citing a lack of a permanent monitoring table, clear work schedules, and sufficient regional oversight to protect commuters and local businesses.

In the Puglia region, maintenance and safety upgrades have led to further nightly closures. On the A14, the section between Molfetta and Trani toward Pescara is scheduled to close on the nights of October 19–20, affecting the ‘Dolmen di Bisceglie est’ service area. On October 21–22, closures will affect the section between Trani and Molfetta toward Bari, impacting the ‘Dolmen di Bisceglie ovest’ service area. Night closures are also planned for the A16 motorway to facilitate safety barrier upgrades and paving works.

Modernization of the Vinci tunnel between Pedaso and Grottammare has entered a critical phase. Starting October 19, reconstruction of the tunnel lining in the direction of Pescara will utilize an 83-ton, nine-meter-long metallic mobile shield, or ‘cassero’. This structure separates the construction zone from active traffic, allowing for concrete pouring while maintaining vehicle flow. To manage height restrictions, a Movyon monitoring system will detect vehicles exceeding 4.30 meters and direct them to the Piceno Ovest service area for inspection. During certain phases, circulation may be restricted to a single lane per direction via a diversion on the northern carriageway toward Ancona.
