AbbVie has presented new clinical data regarding the efficacy of its inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatments, specifically risankizumab (SKYRIZI) and upadacitinib (RINVOQ), for patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Initial findings from the FORTIFY open-label extension study indicated that risankizumab was associated with sustained or improved clinical and endoscopic outcomes over a period of up to five years. Data also showed increasing rates of no-draining fistulas among patients. For those with advanced Crohn’s disease, real-world evidence suggested that 93.3% of patients with fistulas who remained on upadacitinib achieved clinical and steroid-free remission.

Subsequent reports from the United European Gastroenterology Week provided further specifics on remission rates. In the U-ENDURE extension study for Crohn’s disease, upadacitinib doses of 30 mg and 15 mg showed clinical remission rates of 86.6% and 78.9% at week 144, respectively. For ulcerative colitis, the COMMAND study reported clinical remission rates between 54.0% and 73.1% at week 96 using risankizumab. Additionally, interim UPlift data showed a 70.2% clinical response rate in moderate-to-severe Crohn’s disease patients by week 12. Real-world claims analysis further indicated that patients switching from TNF inhibitors to upadacitinib experienced lower rates of hospitalization and surgery compared to those switching to other TNF inhibitors.
