The Abia State Government has initiated the repayment of N61.8 billion in gratuity arrears owed to state and local government retirees, covering liabilities accumulated between 2001 and 2025.

Parallel to these financial settlements, the administration addressed labor disputes involving the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Abia State University, Uturu. Following industrial action triggered by the suspension of Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze—who had criticized the university’s financial conditions on social media—the university reinstated the lecturer. The university stated the reinstatement was “without prejudice to the extant investigative panel on you, whose ultimate report is being awaited.”
