Abu Dhabi is expanding its international presence in the global art market through several major upcoming events on Saadiyat Island.

The inaugural Frieze Abu Dhabi art fair is scheduled for November 19 to 22 at Manarat Al Saadiyat. Organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism — Abu Dhabi and Frieze, the event will feature over 80 galleries from 36 countries. The program includes the debut of the Frieze Abu Dhabi Artist Award, the ‘In Dialogue’ exhibition pairing established and emerging artists, and the Frieze Sculpture Abu Dhabi installation at Mamsha Beach.

In December, Sotheby’s will host its first international fine art auction in Abu Dhabi, titled ‘Breaking Ground’, as part of the second Collectors’ Week. The auction is intended to coincide with the opening of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Frieze fair. The sale will feature works by global masters such as Claude Monet and Andy Warhol alongside regional artists. This follows a previous luxury goods sale that generated $133.4 million.
