The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles has launched ‘The Horror Show’, an immersive exhibition dedicated to over a century of horror cinema. The exhibit is scheduled to run through July 25, 2027.

Featuring 364 original artifacts including costumes, props, and production materials from 167 different titles, the exhibition is organized into six thematic sections: Gothic, Psychological Terror, Science, Slasher, Religion, and Ghosts. Notable items on display include Jack Nicholson’s jacket and axe from ‘The Shining’, Michael Myers’ original costume from ‘Halloween’, and Bela Lugosi’s cape from ‘Dracula’.

Curator Jessica Niebel noted that the exhibition explores how the genre allows audiences to confront societal anxieties and experience fear within a safe environment. To complement the display, the museum is hosting various film screenings, including a retrospective by John Carpenter.
