On October 21, the team suffered a 1-0 defeat against CD Fátima in the Taça de Portugal, with Lucas Russo scoring the winning goal in the 84th minute. Following this, on October 27, Académico de Viseu faced FC Porto in the Taça da Liga at the Estádio do Dragão. The match resulted in a 1-0 loss for Académico de Viseu, eliminating them from the competition. The decisive moment occurred in the 45th minute when Santiago Giménez converted a penalty following a handball by defender Hugo Gambor. While the decision was confirmed by VAR, Académico de Viseu manager Bruno Pinheiro criticized the result, describing the penalty as “casual, fortuitous” despite his team’s competitive performance. FC Porto manager Francesco Farioli expressed satisfaction with his squad rotations, which included a three-man central defense of Nehuén Pérez, Chris Smalling, and Dominik Prpic, to provide minutes to players who arrived late in the season. The victory ensures Porto's progression to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of the match between Benfica and Gil Vicente. For Santiago Giménez, the match marked his first start for the club, and the goal was his second for Porto this season. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-27: FC Porto advances to League Cup semifinals via Santiago Giménez goal Santiago Giménez scored a controversial 45th-minute penalty to lead FC Porto to a 1-0 win over Académico de Viseu, securing their spot in the Taça da Liga semifinals. 20 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sporting-cp-defeats-martimo-2-1-in-taa-da-liga ### 2026-10-21: CD Fátima advances in Taça de Portugal CD Fátima defeated first-division Académico de Viseu 1-0, thanks to an 84th-minute goal by Lucas Russo, to advance to the fourth round of the Taça de Portugal. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/cd-ftima-advances-in-taa-de-portugal --- Cite as: Académico de Viseu tournament matches.
