Sources: 12. Developments: 2. During a performance of the play ‘Fim de Partida’ at the Teatro Simões Lopes Neto in Porto Alegre on October 18, actor Marco Nanini faced audience protests and insults. The incident began when Nanini requested an interruption because the lighting on the Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) interpreter was casting shadows that obstructed his vision. After technical teams failed to resolve the lighting issue, the production proceeded without sign language interpretation. This led to protests from the audience, including deaf spectators who left the theater in solidarity with others. The production company, Pequena Central de Produções Artísticas, issued an apology, acknowledging a failure to verify technical accessibility requirements beforehand. On October 21, Nanini issued a public apology, explaining that the decision to remove the interpreter was driven by technical difficulties regarding set lighting. He admitted the situation created an impression of excluding the deaf community and stated that the moment should have been handled with more sensitivity. Nanini committed to working with the theatrical community to ensure better technical rehearsals for accessible performances in the future. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-21: Marco Nanini apologizes for accessibility controversy in Porto Alegre Actor Marco Nanini apologized after a sign language interpreter was removed from a play in Porto Alegre due to technical lighting issues, sparking criticism regarding accessibility. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/marco-nanini-apologizes-for-accessibility-controversy-in-porto-alegre ### 2026-10-19: Marco Nanini booed in Porto Alegre after accessibility dispute Actor Marco Nanini faced boos and protests in Porto Alegre after a play was resumed without Libras sign language interpretation following a dispute over stage lighting and shadows. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/actor-marco-nanini-faces-backlash-after-theater-accessibility-incident --- Cite as: Accessibility controversy involving Marco Nanini.
