The development of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway in Ghana has progressed through the preparatory clearing phase. Initially, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced that full funding for the project would be secured by the end of 2026 without incurring new debt. At that stage, Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) engineers had cleared 170 kilometres of the 176-kilometre corridor.

Following this, Defence Minister Kenneth Gilbert Adjei confirmed that the GAF completed the right-of-way clearing for the 175.6-kilometre stretch. The operation was finished in 19 weeks, one week ahead of the projected schedule. This clearing, which involved a corridor up to 120 metres wide, was intended to facilitate environmental assessments and technical studies. Regarding financing, the government reported that $1.7 billion had been deposited into a dedicated Bank of Ghana account as of July 2026, with the goal of securing the total estimated $4 billion required for the project by the end of the year.
