The German automobile club ADAC conducted a study evaluating the effectiveness of voice control systems in 40 modern vehicle models. The research aimed to determine if voice commands can reduce driver distraction caused by the transition from physical buttons to complex touchscreen menus.

The evaluation tested three categories: infotainment, climate control, and safety-relevant functions. Results showed significant variation between manufacturers. The BMW 5 Series demonstrated high performance, successfully executing 16 out of 18 tested commands. Conversely, the Suzuki e-Vitara received a poor rating, completing only three out of 18 commands.

While infotainment and climate control systems showed relatively high success rates, the study noted that most vehicles are currently unable to use voice commands for visibility or assistance systems, such as speed warnings or hazard lights.
