Major container terminals in the Adriatic region continue to report significant growth in throughput and infrastructure investment. In Croatia, the Port of Rijeka has expanded its logistics capabilities with a new 7.5 million euro container depot in Škrljevo. Port Authority Director Denis Vukorepa noted that container traffic increased by over 60 percent compared to the previous year, with expectations to reach one million TEUs by next year. Recent data from Fedespedi highlights this momentum, noting that Rijeka saw a 35.7 percent increase in traffic, allowing it to surpass Trieste, which experienced a 4.1 percent decrease. The Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) at the Brajdica terminal, operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), reached a cumulative milestone of four million TEU. This achievement follows the terminal reaching the two million TEU mark five years ago and confirms its increased capacity within Central and Southeast European markets, according to CEO Iñigo Núñez Mendibe. To support this expansion, AGCT completed a 35 million euro investment program in late 2025, which included adding super post-Panamax quay cranes and hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes. The terminal is also transitioning toward sustainability by replacing diesel-powered tractors with electric units. In Montenegro, the Port of Bar’s manager, Port of Adria, reported a financial turnaround. The company moved from a loss of 837,000 euros in the first half of 2025 to a net profit of 202,600 euros in the first half of 2026. Sales revenue rose to 7.14 million euros during this period, and the terminal achieved a record monthly handling of 7,158 TEU in June. Broadly, Adriatic ports are seeing rising volumes, handling 1.855 million TEUs in the first half of 2026 compared to 1.718 million in the first half of 2025.
