In Brazil, interest in aesthetic and surgical procedures remains high, with a Datafolha survey commissioned by the Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica (SBCP) indicating that 30% of the population expresses interest in undergoing some form of procedure during their lifetime. Recent data reveals that approximately one in three Brazilians would be interested in undergoing plastic surgery if the procedures were provided free of charge; specifically, 19% expressed “some interest” and 12% expressed “much interest.”

Gender dynamics show that women express significantly higher interest (41%) compared to men (22%). Women also represent the vast majority of those who have already undergone procedures, accounting for 88% of patients in medium and large-scale aesthetic surgeries last year. While men are increasingly seeking natural-looking results through hair transplants, gynecomastia surgery, and targeted liposuction, the stigma surrounding male cosmetic enhancement continues to diminish.

Medical professionals have raised concerns regarding the drivers of these trends. Psychiatrist Arthur Kaufman from the University of São Paulo (USP) highlighted potential links between social media influence and body image distortions, such as body dysmorphic disorder.

Clinical safety remains a priority. Experts like Dr. Adriana Gois Machado warn that while treatments such as fillers and botulinum toxin are marketed as quick, they require deep anatomical knowledge and individualized evaluations to manage risks related to allergies, medications, or pre-existing diseases.
