AEW announced a new ‘Clockwork Carnage’ match for the WrestleDream event scheduled for October 17 in Orlando, Florida. The match, which features AEW World Champion Will Ospreay defending his title, utilizes a two-stage format involving an initial elimination phase followed by a 15-minute scoring period.

Following the announcement, Samoa Joe secured his qualification for the match by defeating Jack Perry at AEW Grand Slam France. This victory marked Joe’s first televised singles match since May and made him the first participant outside of the champion to join the contest. Mike Bailey has also been identified as a current qualifier.

Further details reveal that the ‘Clockwork Carnage’ match was created by Ospreay and combines elements of a Casino Gauntlet and an Iron Man match. The contest will feature eight competitors entering at three-minute intervals; once all participants have entered, a 15-minute countdown begins, with the winner determined by the highest number of pinfalls or submissions. During the initial entry phase, participants who are pinned or submitted are eliminated.

Adam Copeland is scheduled to compete in a qualifying match against Josh Alexander on AEW Dynamite to determine if he will advance to the match.

Ospreay enters the match as champion following a successful title defense against Kazuchika Okada at AEW Grand Slam: France. He has stated a desire to incorporate more sports-based storytelling into his reign, citing inspiration from major boxing events and international competitions such as the World Cup.
