Developments: 4. AFC Bournemouth’s early 2026/27 Premier League campaign has been characterized by a struggle to secure league victories. In mid-September, the club entered a match against Brentford seeking its first win after three opening matches, while managing defensive issues late in games and several player injuries. By late September, the club underwent leadership changes, with Marco Rose taking over as manager. Following a win in their UEFA Europa League debut against Real Sociedad, Bournemouth hosted Liverpool FC at Vitality Stadium on Sunday, September 20. This fixture marked the first return to the venue for Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola since his tenure with the Cherries. Liverpool secured a 1-0 away victory in the Matchday 5 fixture. After a competitive first half that ended 0-0, Alexander Isak scored the decisive goal in the 57th minute following a cross from Cody Gakpo that deflected off Florian Wirtz and a defender. This goal marked Isak’s fourth of the season. Despite Bournemouth creating several opportunities in the first half, including a close chance from Evanilson, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker maintained a clean sheet. Liverpool’s defense, led by Virgil van Dijk and 21-year-old Jeremy Jacquet, earned a clean sheet, with Jacquet receiving widespread praise for his performance. The result moved Liverpool into sixth place in the league standings and extended their unbeaten run under Iraola to seven matches across all competitions. Despite their recent midweek success in the Europa League, Bournemouth remains winless in the Premier League for the season. The defeat leaves the club, managed by Rose, in the lower reaches of the table after five opening matches. ## Claims - The match between Bournemouth and Liverpool is scheduled for Sunday, September 20th.
