East African nations are developing sports infrastructure to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). In Zanzibar, the Amaan Stadium has been modernized to meet international standards, aiming to integrate football with cultural tourism near Stone Town.

Uganda is investing more than USD 300 million to rebuild and expand three stadiums, including the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, a new venue in Hoima, and the Akii-Bua Stadium in Lira. While these developments proceed, experts have expressed concerns regarding the long-term commercial viability of the venues and have suggested creating integrated sport and entertainment districts to avoid future public liabilities.

In Tanzania, Minister Paul Makonda reported that the budget for the Arusha stadium, also known as the Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium, increased from 187 billion Shillings to 330.8 billion Shillings. This increase is attributed to new requirements from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for upgrades such as elevators and sky boxes to ensure the facility meets international standards.
