Reports initially indicated that Sydney Swans forward Joel Amartey was set to join the Carlton Blues as an unrestricted free agent on a five-year deal valued at approximately $1 million per season. This move followed a period where Amartey struggled with injuries, including a partial Achilles tear in June.

As the AFL free agency period officially opened, Carlton moved to secure Amartey, though updated reports suggest the contract may be worth up to $750,000 per season. Amartey is expected to serve as a replacement for Charlie Curnow.
