In Senegal, efforts to improve agricultural stability and food sovereignty have progressed from long-term impact assessments to the implementation of specific protective measures.

In late July, researchers and international partners convened in Dakar for a national workshop to evaluate agricultural innovations developed between 2005 and 2025. This assessment focuses on the adoption of technologies such as improved crop varieties, agroforestry, and climate-adaptation strategies. Dr Idrissa Ouédraogo of One CGIAR noted that “an innovation only has true value when it meets a need, is adopted and delivers concrete, lasting impact.”

By late August, the focus expanded to include financial and digital security. In the Fatick region, Agropole Centre and the Compagnie nationale d’assurance agricole du Sénégal (CNAAS) launched an agricultural insurance training program. Supported by a 190 million CFA franc commitment from the African Development Bank, the program aims to provide specialized insurance products for value chains including peanuts, salt, and dry cereals like millet and maize to secure production and income for peasant organizations.
