Efforts to establish payment standards for AI agents and agentic commerce have expanded through new institutional partnerships. 

Block joined the x402 Foundation to support an open payment standard that integrates the Bitcoin Lightning Network. This initiative aims to facilitate low-cost, high-volume microtransactions for AI agents to pay for digital resources like API access and computing power using the HTTP ‘402 Payment Required’ response code. Steve Lee, head of Block’s Bitcoin development initiative Spiral, characterized the move as a “concrete step toward making Bitcoin everyday money for people and the agents acting on their behalf.”

Following these developments, x402 Inc. joined the Japan Blockchain Association as a silver member. The company is focusing on designing stablecoin-based payment systems, utilizing networks such as Solana and Base to address challenges in payment control and transaction records for small-scale, per-call payments.
