The integration of artificial intelligence into genomics is advancing through both specialized diagnostic tools and broader research applications.

In China, researchers from BGI-Research and Zhejiang Lab introduced OneGenome, an open-source genomic AI system. This platform uses a human-genome foundation model called Genos and large language model capabilities to assist clinicians in interpreting complex genomic sequencing and diagnosing rare diseases. The system aims to connect DNA variants to clinical literature to resolve bottlenecks in identifying novel variants.

Concurrently, the field of generative genomics is being highlighted for its potential to optimize biotechnology research. By using AI to analyze DNA and RNA patterns, experts suggest the technology could significantly reduce the time and cost of drug development, potentially shortening timelines from years to months and improving clinical trial success rates.
