Following a fire in Airola, authorities in the Campania region have initiated extensive food and soil safety inspections to monitor dioxin levels.

Initial inspections confirmed dioxin non-compliance in sheep milk in Cervinara, leading the Avellino veterinary services to block and remove the product from the food chain. Other early reports of non-compliance included pasture grass in Airola and Forchia, as well as chopped corn in Bonea.

Subsequent monitoring revealed further non-compliance in sheep milk in Forchia and preliminary non-compliant results in three samples of caciotta cheese. While some products, such as eggs in Paolisi and buffalo milk in Bonea, have tested compliant, olive samples in Forchia were found to contain dioxin levels exceeding action levels, necessitating further evaluation.

Soil testing has yielded nine definitive results across several locations, including Airola and San Martino Valle Caudina, which did not exceed contamination thresholds. Additional soil analyses and agricultural testing remain ongoing.
