The potential record-breaking transfer of Anis Hadj Moussa from Feyenoord to Al-Ittihad has collapsed due to a dispute over payment guarantees.

While the clubs had reached a verbal agreement on a fee potentially exceeding €40 million, negotiations stalled when Feyenoord demanded a bank guarantee to secure the sum. Al-Ittihad, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, refused the request, arguing that all payments are covered by the state fund. 

The impasse, combined with the rapidly approaching deadline for the Saudi transfer market, left insufficient time to complete the necessary medical examinations. This outcome follows a period of internal tension at Feyenoord, where the 24-year-old Algerian international had reportedly expressed a strong desire to move and had missed recent team sessions. 

Feyenoord had previously been hesitant to sell due to upcoming Champions League fixtures and the inability to register a replacement in the closed Dutch market, but they were reportedly willing to accept the increased offer if financial security was guaranteed. 

As a result of the failed negotiations, Hadj Moussa will remain at Feyenoord. The collapse of the deal also means the player will not secure a contract that could have potentially earned him over €50 million over a five-year period.
