Universities in Alabama, including the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), implemented a statewide free application week from October 5 to October 9 to expand access to higher education.

The initiative aimed to remove financial barriers for prospective students, with standard fees typically ranging from $40 to $80. At UAB, the waiver applied to first-time freshmen, transfer, and online students, regardless of residency. For the University of Alabama, waivers covered Early College, undergraduate, UA Online, and Graduate School applications, though graduate applicants were required to claim the waiver before applying.

During the program, UAB reported that preliminary enrollment figures indicated the university was on track to welcome its largest freshman class in history for the fall 2026 semester.
