Erjon Vishkulli, a 28-year-old man, sustained a serious eye injury from a rubber bullet while participating in anti-government protests in Tirana. Following the incident, Vishkulli was transferred to Rome, Italy, for specialized medical care. While Prime Minister Edi Rama claimed the state facilitated the medical transport, Vishkulli’s sister disputed this, stating the transfer was organized by family and supporters to avoid “political propaganda.”

Vishkulli underwent a successful surgical procedure at the Gemelli Clinic in Rome to save his eye. The operation was performed by Professor Stanislao Rizzo. Following the surgery, Albanian Health Minister Klodiana Spahiu announced the successful outcome and confirmed that the Albanian government has approved financial support for Vishkulli’s ongoing treatment. She noted that while the eye has been saved, restoring his sight will require continued patience and medical follow-up.

In response to the injury, the Tirana Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident, specifically examining allegations regarding the “disproportionate use of force” by police officers.
