A documentary titled ‘The Trial of Alec Baldwin’, directed by Rory Kennedy, has been announced to examine the aftermath of the 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film ‘Rust’. The film explores the legal proceedings, media scrutiny, and Baldwin’s personal experience following the incident.

Initial reports noted that the documentary would trace the trial of armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and Baldwin’s own involuntary manslaughter charges, which were dismissed in July 2024 after a judge ruled that evidence had been withheld. 

Following the trailer release, Blue Ant Media acquired the U.S. and international licensing rights for the feature-length project. The documentary, which includes unseen behind-the-scenes footage from 2023, is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on October 1, with plans to be introduced to broadcasters and streaming platforms at MIPCOM in October.
