The Alentejo Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) announced a 3.58 million euro competition to fund investments in prevention, monitoring, and disaster response. This funding is intended to increase the operational capacity of municipalities, fire departments, and humanitarian associations through infrastructure and risk management planning. Additionally, the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Alentejo (CIMAA) has initiated a public tender for approximately 637,430 euros to expand its forest fire video surveillance system. The project involves deploying fixed towers, mobile towers, and a drone equipped with visible and infrared detection technology across several municipalities, including Nisa, Gavião, Crato, Ponte de Sor, and Alter do Chão. This surveillance data will be coordinated with the National Republican Guard (GNR) to facilitate earlier detection of smoke and heat sources. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: Portugal reports high tap water safety amid environmental health warnings Portugal reports nearly 100% tap water safety for the 11th year, even as environmental experts warn of rising mortality from extreme heat and pollution across the country. 12 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/alto-minho-seeks-300-million-euros-for-highway-infrastructure ### 2026-09-26: Alentejo authorities launch initiatives to bolster civil protection and wildfire surveillance Authorities in Alentejo, Portugal, are investing millions in civil protection, including a 3.58M euro fund for climate resilience and new surveillance towers and drones to combat wildfires. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/alentejo-authorities-launch-initiatives-to-bolster-civil-protection-and-wildfire-surveillance --- Cite as: Alentejo wildfire prevention and civil protection.
