In late August 2026, AC Milan rejected a formal transfer offer from Atalanta for Belgian midfielder Alexis Saelemaekers. The club, including management and head coach Ruben Amorim, maintained that the player was not for sale, with Amorim reportedly placing an “absolute veto” on any departure due to the player’s tactical versatility.

By late September, Saelemaekers sustained a right ankle sprain during a training session at Milanello. While medical examinations ruled out bone lesions, ligament damage, or joint capsule injuries, the club decided to monitor his condition daily. His availability for the October 11 Serie A match against Sassuolo remains uncertain.

To address Saelemaekers’ potential absence, manager Ruben Amorim is considering tactical alternatives, identifying Alphadjo Cissé and Diego Moreira as the primary candidates to fill his role on the left side of the attacking midfield.
