During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf delivered addresses focusing on regional stability and international legality.

Initially, Attaf addressed the status of Jerusalem, asserting that it is a matter of “justice and international legality rather than a mere political clause.” He argued against unilateral measures to change the city’s demographic or legal character and called for coordinated Arab and Muslim action to protect holy sites, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In subsequent remarks, the scope of Attaf’s criticism expanded. He accused Israel of attempting to divide Somalia and condemned military actions in Syria and Lebanon, while noting continued civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip. Attaf also advocated for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and called for broader United Nations reform to address a decline in international trust and the increasing use of force.

Expanding on these themes, Attaf addressed the assembly regarding the Durban Declaration, emphasizing the fight against racism and advocating for the legal status of El Qods. During the session, he also engaged in high-level meetings with several African counterparts to discuss regional stability and collective responsibility.
