Developments: 2. Algerian national sports teams have entered various stages of preparation and competition. The national boxing team began a training cycle at the Fouka regrouping center in Tipasa to prepare for the African Boxing Championships in Kinshasa. Simultaneously, the U23 football team prepared for friendly matches against South Africa in Durban, though striker Mohamed El Amine Ramdaoui was sidelined due to injury. In youth football, the U20 national team faces significant challenges in the UNAF tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana. Following a 3-1 defeat to Morocco at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismaïlia, Egypt—where Morocco’s goals came from Sami Bouhdan, Moncef Mohamed, and Ilyas El Haidawi, and Algeria’s lone goal was scored by Mohamed Amjed Niou—both teams currently sit at the top of the standings with four points each. This result maintains intense pressure on Algeria’s qualification hopes. The qualifying group also includes Tunisia and Libya, with only the top two teams advancing to the final tournament. Additionally, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has officially dismissed speculation regarding a bid to host the 2027 tournament. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-30: African youth football: Morocco wins U20 qualifier and splits U17 series with Ghana Morocco's U20 team defeated Algeria 3-1 in UNAF qualifiers, while Morocco's U17 side split a friendly series with Ghana 1-1. 11 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/algeria-u20-football-team-loses-3-1-to-morocco-in-unaf-tournament ### 2026-09-25: Algerian national sports teams begin preparations for continental competitions Algerian national boxing and U23 football teams are undergoing preparations for upcoming continental competitions and international friendlies in South Africa. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/algerian-national-sports-teams-begin-preparations-for-continental-competitions --- Cite as: Algerian national sports team activities.
