Spanish author Alicia Giménez Bartlett has released ‘Bajo el cielo infernal’ (Destino), the 13th installment in her crime fiction series featuring Inspector Petra Delicado. The character, noted as the first female police inspector in European crime fiction, is depicted in this volume as grieving and angry following the death of a loved one.

In interviews regarding the work, Giménez Bartlett described the novel as being ‘full of rage and style’. The plot involves the investigation of a Jesuit priest's death and parish intrigues set in the La Mina neighborhood of the Barcelona metropolitan area. The author also reflected on the personal connection between her writing and her own experiences with grief, noting that the character's feelings mirrored her own experience following the death of her husband.

In recent media appearances, including the ‘Libros y Cosas’ videopodcast, Giménez Bartlett has discussed how she channeled feelings of anger and injustice into the character. Beyond the literary themes, she has also used her platform to express social concerns, specifically regarding the rise of the far right and its influence on younger generations.
