In late September 2026, the town hosted the 9th edition of the Festicante festival. The event celebrated the centenary of the mining industry workers' choral group (STIM) and focused on Cante Alentejano, a traditional form of collective singing. The festival included musical performances, debates, guided tours of the Aljustrel Mining Park, and exhibitions. Following these cultural celebrations, Aljustrel was included in Portugal’s Educational Services Guide for the Mining and Geological Interest Route and Points of Interest. This inclusion positions the region as a destination for study visits during the 2026-2027 school year, offering students access to the Aljustrel Mining Park, the Interpretation Center, and the “Aljustrel tem uma Mina” route to explore the history of the local mining industry. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-30: Aljustrel joins Portugal's mining and geological educational guide Aljustrel has joined Portugal's Mining and Geological Interest Route guide, offering educational study visits and guided tours of its mining heritage for the 2026-2027 school year. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/aljustrel-joins-portugals-mining-and-geological-educational-guide ### 2026-09-24: Aljustrel hosts Festicante festival celebrating mining choral heritage The Festicante festival in Aljustrel celebrates the centenary of the mining workers' choral group, featuring Cante Alentejano performances, local markets, and mining park tours. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/aljustrel-hosts-festicante-festival-celebrating-mining-choral-heritage --- Cite as: Aljustrel mining and geological heritage promotion.
