Sources: 13. Developments: 3. Waseda University secured its sixth victory at the All-Japan University Ekiden on November 1, setting a new course record of 5:03:31. This win follows their recent Izumo Ekiden victory, marking two consecutive titles in the student ekiden season. The record-breaking performance was driven by a group of successful rookies, including Yojiro Honda, Yota Mashiko, and Ryoki Niizuma. Both Mashiko and Niizuma set new section records during the race, while Ryuta Suzuki broke the previous record for the fifth section. Shinsaku Kudo served as the anchor, maintaining the pace to lead the team to a dominant finish. With this win, Waseda University has captured two of the three major student ekiden titles. The university now aims to become the first to win all three in a single season by securing a victory at the upcoming Hakone Ekiden in January. Prior to the race, major universities had finalized their strategies for the 106.8 kilometer relay from Atsuta Jingu in Nagoya to Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture. Other contenders included Kokugakuin University, which deployed ace Hiromichi Nonaka in the seventh section, and Chuo University, which planned to use high-speed rookies Jian Zije and Ryo Kurimura to establish an early lead. Aoyama Gakuin University entered the race with its “Yaruze Daisakusen” (Let’s Do It Strategy) to recover from an 11th place finish at the Izumo Ekiden. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-31: Waseda University wins All-Japan University Ekiden with new record Waseda University won the All-Japan University Ekiden with a new course record of 5:03:31, securing its second major title of the season and eyeing a historic triple crown at the Hakone Ekiden. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nippon-sport-science-university-secures-79th-consecutive-hakone-ekiden-appearance ### 2026-10-30: All Japan University Ekiden: Team rosters and strategies announced Universities have announced rosters for the All Japan University Ekiden.
